Business
Issues: Discussed the bylaws and to
start thinking of changes for upcoming January meeting; bylaws will be emailed
to everyone. Minutes from August meeting
read and unanimously approved.

News: Charles was a finalist in the
Golden Donut 200 word contest.

Topic: Writing process
- wrote first novel (Pursuit of Justice)
during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo or NaNo) – only wrote about
36,000 words
- sent to Kirkus for review
- used editorialdepartment.com for
editing advice
- inspiration was a case he tried about
25 years ago
- classifies it as kind of a cozy –
setting is Myrtle Beach
- enjoyed rewriting the best even though
he is terrible with description as this process helped him really get to know
characters and add in description as needed; does not give racial attributes to
characters and allows reader to come to their own conclusion leaves with
question and follows up with book club discussion questions – to make reader
think about what they read
- spent 6 years creating first novel; is
working on second
- has been practicing law for 30 years;
in SC not called prosecutors but solicitors
- suggested reading The Tipping Point by
Malcolm Gladwell
